Ghost of Yōtei snow covered mountain peak in feudal Japan with protagonist Atsu

1. Feudal Frontier: Hokkaido & Mount Yōtei in 1603

Moving three centuries beyond Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei explores the wild, untamed territories surrounding Mount Yōtei in modern-day Hokkaido. Set in 1603, during the transition into the Edo period, the world features vast grasslands, snowy tundra biomes, and organic settlements outside organized samurai clans.

Engine & Hardware Features

  • Target Hardware: Built natively for PlayStation 5 & PS5 Pro
  • Combat Systems: Dual-wield katana stances, kusarigama, and early firearm ballistics
  • World Simulation: Procedural snow deformation, wind vector direction, dynamic cloud layers
  • DualSense Integration: Haptic resistance for stringed instruments, sword parries, and harsh blizzard feedback

2. Protagonist Atsu & Non-Linear Target Tracking

Players step into the boots of Atsu, a mercenary operating outside traditional samurai codes. Unlike traditional open-world waypoint systems, Ghost of Yōtei emphasizes organic environmental cues—such as wind direction, animal behavior, and smoke columns—to guide players to target locations.

3. Dual-Blade Dynamics and Stance Evolution

Combat physics have been completely overhauled for PS5. Atsu utilizes dual-wield katanas, allowing fluid parry-and-strike chains, fluid posture breaks, and custom stance switching adapted for varied enemy archetypes.
